Gathering material and resources on preventing abortion and early age orphanhood is one of the new fields for My Home. Unfortunately, this field is barely covered.

Unofficial statistics reports that there were about 30 million pregnancies aborted in the years of independent Ukraine. The figure is terrifying. Poland, to compare, reports only 82,329 abortions in the same period, which is 365 times less than in Ukraine.

Even though it is officially accepted that abortion is killing of a living being it is still legal in Ukraine up to 154 days of pregnancy.

In today Ukraine 60% of newborn deaths are assigned to the abortions the mothers had earlier.

There are over 280,000 abortions done each year, 40,000 of them being done by teens and young women (15-17 years of age).

In Ukraine abortion remains one of the most wide-spread birth control methods (like in most economically and medically underdeveloped countries).

“As the result Ukraine has very high rates of secondary infertility: out of 100 women who had an abortion 80 end up infertile. Lethality during abortion resulting from hemorrhage or peritonitis equals 5 cases in 10,000”, - reports www.podrobnosti.ua
